Organ donation and Transplantation

Organ donation and Transplantation is one of the most remarkable medical success storiesof this century.Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Bathindahas got the approval from Govt of Punjab to start Liver Transplantation. Today i.e09.08.2019 the institution organized a Lecture incollaboration with MOHANFoundation Chennai for awareness of organ donation amongstthe faculty staff and students.A team of Mohan Foundation (Northern India)chaptervisited Adesh University.The team made a presentation highlighting the importanceand procedureof organ donationand give the awareness. They told that Vital organslike heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs and pancreas can be donated in case of brain death. However, other tissues likecorneas, heart valves,skin bones etc can be donated in natural death. Organ like Kidney, Liver can also be donated by living donor. One can be an organ donor by singing a donor card from any hospital and NGO. If a person has a donorcard, it means that he/she is willing to donate organsupon death.We shouldremember that in our country even if one has signed the donor card, it is important to have the consensus ofthe family while signing the donor card. The donor card should be kept by everyone in his wallet as a proof of his/her wish to donate organs upon death. Dr GPI Singh, Vice Chancellor, Dr Gurpreet Singh Gill, Medical Supdt (Admn), Col.
